The San Francisco 49ers have a few tough decisions to make in the 2023 offseason. One of them being at right tackle with Mike McGlinchey entering free agency.

McGlinchey, 28, has spent the last five seasons in the Bay Area, getting drafted by the team in 2018. Coming off one of his best seasons in the NFL, the offensive lineman is looking to cash in big this spring. But that could mean leaving the franchise that helped mold him into the player he is today. The Philly native is aware of that, and seems likely to make a tough choice this offseason.

“It’s definitely a tough deal. We have a lot of great players in the 49ers organization, which is why we’ve been so good the last five years. It makes it really hard to afford everybody,” McGlinchey said on KNBR Wednesday.

San Francisco is up against the cap in 2023, projected to have a mere $8 million in cap space currently. And with a looming Nick Bosa extension on the horizon, McGlinchey is only thankful for his time as a member of the Red & Gold.

“I’m extremely fond of the time I’ve had there. I think the Niners are a first class organization all the way,” McGlinchey stated. “I couldn’t be prouder of the time I’ve spent with the 49ers and the work we’ve put in.”

“It’s been as fun for me as it’s been for everybody else. My family and I are forever grateful for the Faithful, the 49ers, the Yorks, John and Kyle and everybody there…If this is it, then I just want to say thank you to everyone,” the right tackle added.

The 49ers are expected to have interest in retaining one of their own long-term. But with the Notre dame alum hoping for a deal exceeding $10-$12 million annually, the 49ers may be priced out of his market all together

ā€œCould heĀ miss his market? Sure,ā€ general manager John Lynch said to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. ā€œThen would we be interested? Of course we would. But I donā€™t see that happening. I see him being a coveted player.ā€
