The Oakland Coliseum was the site for the battle of the best, and worst, of the AFC West. Looking for their 10th win of the season, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs managed plenty of offense against the two-win Oakland Raiders, who did all they could to re-ignite the 2016 season with a Derek Carr led 4th quarter comeback that would ultimately fall short. Kansas City further cemented their place at the top of the AFC West, now 4-0 against division opponents this season, with the 40-33 victory on Sunday.

For the Chiefs, Sunday’s offensive showcase is the 5th time this season they have scored 40 or more points in a game this season, tying the 2003 Chiefs for most in franchise history. Mahomes threw for 295 yards and four touchdowns against the suspect Raiders secondary, already the 7th game of this season (and his young career) with four or more passing TD’s.

Kansas City held a commanding 33-16 lead heading into the 4th quarter, where Oakland managed to put 17 points on the board and make the final score a bit more respectable. Derek Carr had arguably his best game of the season, at least statistically, completing 76% of his passes for 285 yards and three touchdowns.

The Chiefs, currently the top seed in the AFC should the season end today, have the 9-3 Los Angeles Chargers biting at their heels. Both teams are scheduled to meet on Thursday, December 13th in Kansas City, a game that could decide the division. As for the Raiders, they desperately look for the relief of the seasons end, hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers next Sunday.
