The writing was on the wall, but now it’s confirmed: Jimmy Garoppolo is leaving the San Francisco 49ers.

Reports confirmed Monday that the quarterback will be signing with the Las Vegas Raiders on a long-term deal. The reported contract is 3-years, $67.5 million with $34 million guaranteed. A move that had been rumored for some time, now going to happen.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo was first with the news, ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed the contract thereafter.

Jimmy Garoppolo will reunite with coach Josh McDaniels, previously working together as members of the New England Patriots. A player revered by many, Jimmy G can now step into an offense full on offensive talent in Nevada.

Garoppolo, 31, spent the last six seasons in San Francisco, leading the team to the Super Bowl in 2020. He finishes his 49ers career with a 38-17 record, last featuring Week 13 against the Miami Dolphins, where he fractured his foot last season. Jimmy G threw for 13,599 passing yards, 82 TDs and 42 INTs as a 49er, playing in 57 games with the franchise.

After a drama-filled season in 2022, the two sides finally part after a very up-and-down relationship. Stating that Jimmy Garoppolo will not be returning to The Bay, the 49ers will look for a cheaper veteran on the market this spring.

“The best available that can fit into the structure of our team and the salary cap and all that, but the best one available,” head coach Kyle Shanahan said after the season.
