After weeks of speculation, quarterback Aaron Rodgers has emerged from the darkness to announce that he wants to play for the New York Jets next season.

Rodgers made an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show Wednesday, confirming his desire to play for the “Gang Green” in 2023. The quarterback mentioned that it was not an easy road to get to, stating that when he entered his darkness retreat he was “90% retiring” from football. But when the Green Bay Packers’ tone changed, so did his.

“Since Friday, my intention was to play and play for the NY Jets,” Rodgers said on the show. “The facts are they want to move on, and now, so do I.”

Rodgers could be traded to New York in the coming days/weeks, as both teams are reportedly working on compensation still.

The news Wednesday comes days after ESPN’s Trey Wingo indicated that Rodgers to the Jets is “done.” And while details still have to be ironed out, the big topic of where Aaron will play has been decided.

Rodgers used his appearance with Pat McAfee to explain how his decision came to fruition, stating that his love for the Packers fanbase & Green Bay never waned. Drafted by Green Bay in 2005, Rodgers’ 18 seasons with the Packers serve as the longest tenure, a mark that puts him in Cheesehead immortality.

“Nobody’s bled green and gold like me,” Rodgers said.ย “I’m debatably the best player in franchise history. I’m in the conversation for sure. What’s not debatable is I’m the longest-tenured Packer in franchise history. You can debate the first part, Bart [Starr], Brett [Favre]…you can’t debate anybody has been there longer than me.”

Rodgers also shed some light on Green Bay’s new starting QB Jordan Love. Serving as his predecessor for a few years, Rodgers had nothing but good things to say about Love, expecting a bright future for the former Utah State standout.

“Jordan [Love] is going to be a great player, he’s a great kid, they got a good young team,” Rodgers stated.

A future first-ballot Hall of Famer, Aaron Rodgers will finish his illustrious career in Green Bay with more than 59,00 passing yards, 475 passing TDs and 105 INTs. He has a 147-75-1 record as a starter. The Chico, CA native has one Super Bowl ring, defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers, 31-25, in 2011.
