After months of vying to return to basketball, DeMarcus Cousins has found his next basketball team.

Reports surfaced Tuesday morning that the former Sacramento Kings’ bigman would be signing with the Guaynabo Mets of the Puerto Rican Professional Basketball League. The league resumes play in the spring, and Cousins will look to use this experience to catapult him into an NBA franchise next season.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was first with the news.

Cousins, 32, last played in the NBA in the 2021-22 season. Featuring sporadically for the Milwaukee Bucks and the Denver Nuggets, DMC averaged 15 minutes a game, nine points and 5.6 rebounds.

Since then, Cousins has been petitioning to return to the NBA, proclaiming so on multiple podcasts over the last few months. He recently went on Kevin Garnett’s podcast, stating that he believes he’s the third-best center in the NBA today.

“As of right now, I’m the third-best center in the league,” Cousins said.

While that statement may not be true, there was a time when Cousins was at the top of the basketball landscape.

A four-time All-Star, Boogie Cousins was at the peak of his powers with Sacramento, playing seven seasons with the Kings. He averaged 21.1 PPG, 10.8 RPG and 3 APG as a member of the Kings. Cousins was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans during All-Star Weekend in the 2016-17 season, ending his tenure in Sacramento tumultuously. He played 65 games for the Pels before tearing his Achilles. Cousins has bounced around the league ever seen.

DeMarcus Cousins joins former NBA center Ed Davis on the Mets, with former teammate Tyreke Evans playing for the Indios De Mayaguez last season.
