Reports: 49ers re-sign DL Kerry Hyder Jr. Friday
The San Francisco 49ers continue to retool the defensive line for 2023, reportedly re-signing DL Kerry Hyder Jr. to a deal Friday.

The San Francisco 49ers are bringing back a member of last season’s defensive line, with Kerry Hyder Jr. agreeing to a new deal.
Reports surfaced Friday morning that the 49ers and the defensive lineman had come to terms on a new contract to remain in the Bay Area for at least this upcoming season. Contract specifics have not been released at this time.
The news was first reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Kerry Hyder Jr. brings needed rotational versatility back to the 49ers’ D-line. In 2020, he played primarily on the edge. In 2022, SF needed him primarily on the interior.

Kerry Hyder Jr., 31, was a key contributor for the 49ers last season, able to play all across the defensive line. Playing mostly edge in 2020, Hyder returned to SF to play on the interior in 2022. He finished last season with 19 combined tackles, one sack, four quarterback hits and three pass deflections in 16 games played. Now coming back to the 49ers on a veteran-minimum deal, Hyder can re-establish his role as a glue piece for DL coach Kris Kocurek.
The 49ers have lost a plethora of pass rushers this offseason, with Charles Omenihu, Samson Ebukam and Jordan Willis being the biggest names. General manager John Lynch has also filled the void in the trenches with the signings of Clelin Ferrell and Austin Bryant.
Now with Hyder Jr. back in the fold, the defensive line may not need to be addressed much during the 2023 NFL Draft later this month. San Francisco has 11 picks from Rounds 3-7, giving them enough ammunition to restock the entire roster.
