An exterior view of the Golden 1 Center after they lit the beam after the Sacramento Kings beat the Golden State Warriors in Game Two of the Western Conference First Round Playoffs at Golden 1 Center on April 17, 2023 in Sacramento, California.

Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg joined the Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross on Thursday to talk about the success of the Kings in the postseason, how the city could handle a MLB expansion team and more.

“Sports is a communal experience. This is why people are so excited, people want to be together, they want to have fun together, they want to experience good and great things together. And that’s what sports does,” Steinberg told Dave and Jason. “When 95,000 people are in our downtown, that’s had its share of challenges, I’ve not had a better night as Mayor of Sacramento in six and a half years than Monday night. That was the most fun and the greatest feeling I have had. And yeah, there are more important things in life, I get it, but man, that is something to just remember and to continue just enjoy.”

Topics discussed include:

  • Being at Game 2 and still barely having a voice by Thursday morning
  • The Kings look like the tougher team
  • 95,000 people were in downtown Saturday night for the Kings first playoff game since 2006, according to the Downtown Partnership
  • How the Golden 1 Center and DOCO is going to “benefit Sacramento for many decades to come.”
  • Being outside the arena is just as fun as being inside with the crowds that have come out to support the Kings
  • Thoughts on the Oakland A’s purchasing land in Las Vegas, essentially the team’s tenure in the Bay Area
  • Can Sacramento house an MLB team?
