As the NBA announces its end-of-year awards, another Sacramento King has received some recognition.

On Thursday, Boston Celtics guard Malcolm Brogdon was named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year. It’s the second individual award of Brogdon’s career, after winning the Rookie of the Year award in 2016-17 with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Brogdon joins only Mike Miller as a player who won the NBA Rookie of the Year honors and Sixth Man of the Year award in their career.

This past week, the NBA also announced the defensive and clutch players of the year, along with the coach of the year.

While Malik Monk didn’t take home the award, he did walk away with several nominations — three second-place points and 13 third-place points — finishing fifth in voting results. During the season, Monk averaged 13.5, 2.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists. Throughout the season, the first man off the Kings’ bench recorded 12 20-point games and a career-high 45 points in the team’s 176-175 double-overtime win over the Los Angeles Clippers earlier in the season.

In that Clippers game, Monk and De’Aaron Fox became the first pair of teammates in team history to score 40 or more points in the same game. Monk also tied Kevin Mart for the second-most points off the bench as a Kings player in that LA win.

Throughout the season, coach Mike Brown advocated for his bench star to be recognized as the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year. In a now infamous video, the coach took off his shoe and showed the media his socks while saying “Malik Monk should be getting mentions for sixth man of the year.”
