With rumors swirling around one 49ers quarterback, the other seems to be doing just fine in his recovery from offseason elbow surgery.

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy is officially back in the Bay Area, making an appearance at a Giants’ game Friday night. The Iowa State alum was spotted behind home-plate at the Giants-New York Mets game, receiving a standing ovation from the 49ers faithful in attendance.

Purdy underwent a repair of his right UCL last month, an injury sustained on the first series of the NFC Championship Game last season. Only six weeks removed from the operation, Purdy can be seen using his right arm to wave to the crowd, before giving handshakes and high-fives to fans sitting nearby.

After it was confirmed that Purdy would be joining the 49ers for their offseason program last week, speculation around his recovery began to intensify. Shedding his bulky arm brace recently, the QB is taking it one day at a time this offseason.

“It’s a process for sure,” Purdy told ProFootballTalk. “It doesn’t matter what you hurt. If you have surgery on something, you’ve just got to let it have time to heal initially and then go from there. For me, it’s slowly getting better a little bit every single day. Everything is going as planned. We’re on the same page just in terms of the Niners, [Dr. Keith] Meister and my physical therapist out here. Everyone’s on the same page, and everything’s going as planned. Very thankful for that. Just staying one day at a time from here.”

Coming on for an injured Jimmy Garoppolo in Week 13, Brock Purdy never looked back, going on a 5-0 unbeaten record in the regular season. The last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft managed to get by the Seahawks and Cowboys in the playoffs, before getting hurt against Philly.

Despite the injury, the 49ers’ front office feels comfortable with Purdy as the long-term starter, hoping that he can fully return at the start of the 2023 season.

“I think Brock has earned the right with the way he played,” Lynch said to the media recently. “He’s probably the leader in the clubhouse. I’ll let [head coach Kyle Shanahan] make those kinds of decisions. But I know when we talk, I think Brock has probably earned that right to be the guy. If we were to line up, he’d probably take that first snap.”

While the QB won’t be able to begin throwing until three months post-operation, Purdy’s appearance and mannerisms are certainly encouraging at this point in the offseason.
