The Las Vegas Raiders have a lot of picks in Thursday’s NFL Draft.
Tied with the Houston Texans for a league-leading 12 draft selections, General Manager Dave Ziegler spoke to the media saying they’re hopeful they’ll add players who can contribute quickly next season.
“I think when you’re picking up at the top where we are at in some of these rounds, you hope that you’re able to find some guys that are going to impact the team, and selfishly we want to do it throughout the whole draft,” Ziegler said. “But I think we’re in a good position with the number of picks that we have and where we’re picking to find some players that are going to come in here and have a positive impact on the team.”
And the priority, Ziegler added, is to find a player who is going to have an impact.
“You want to find a starting level player at that spot, there’s no doubt about that. And I think along with that, you want to find a player that hopefully fits a need that you have,” Ziegler said. “I mean, we’re going to look at the best available players, but we also have a lot of places on this team where we can add competition and we can add people that can help our roster. And we want to find a player that fits what we look for in a Raiders player. We want to find someone that has a passion for football.”
Where do the Las Vegas Raiders pick in the draft?
Barring any trades, the Raiders will have multiple picks in four of the seven rounds. Round five will see the Raiders make three selections. Here’s a breakdown of where they’re picking:
- Round 1 – No. 7
- Round 2 – No. 38
- Round 3 – No. 70 and 100
- Round 4 – No. 109
- Round 5 – No. 141, 144, 174
- Round 6 – No. 204 and 214
- Round 7 -No. 220 and 231
Why do the Raiders have so many picks?
When the team traded tight end Darren Waller, the Raiders received a third-round pick, pushing them to 12 total draft picks in the 2023 NFL Draft.
That move wasn’t the only one to secure the team more picks. The Raiders were awarded two compensatory picks because they lost more free agents than they signed in 2022. They also received extra picks because of the following moves:
- Trading Bryan Edwards and a seventh-round pick to the Falcons in May 2022 secured them an extra fifth-round pick
- After sending Jonathan Hankins to the Cowboys, the Raiders secured an extra sixth-round pick
- Trading cornerback Trayvon Mullen Jr. to the Arizona Cardinals resulted in an extra seventh-round pick
When does the NFL Draft take place?
This year, the NFL Draft takes place from Thursday through Saturday, April 27- 29, from the home of the Chiefs, in Kansas City.
