San Francisco 49ers trade up to select S Ji’Ayir Brown

At long last, the San Francisco 49ers have made a big move, trading up for safety Ji’Ayir Brown.

The 49ers traded their No. 102, 164 and 222 picks to the Minnesota Vikings for the 87th overall selection. The move assured that San Francisco would be able to get Brown, a position the team needed in the near future.

Brown, 23, was a two-year starter at Penn State, playing 32 games in three seasons. He racked up 153 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, and ten interceptions. He finished as the #1 college safety according to Pro Football Focus, first in both pressures and sacks. 

Drawing comparisons to Bills’ S Micah Hyde, “Tig” Brown could be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.

“It really felt like home,” Brown said about his visit in his introductory press conference. “I knew from the time left my visit, that was the best visit I’ve been on and I knew that’s where I belong at.”

Barring any trades, the 49ers will have multiple picks in three of the final seven rounds Round 7 will see the Red & Gold make four selections. Here’s a breakdown of where they’re picking:

• Round 5 – No., 155, 164, 173
• Round 6 – No. 216
• Round 7 -No. 247, 253, 255
