San Francisco 49ers draft Alabama TE Cameron Latu in third round
The San Francisco 49ers have added depth at tight end, drafting Alabama standout Cameron Latu in the third round.

To round out Day 2, the 49ers have selected tight end Cameron Latu to pair with All-Pro George Kittle.
The San Francisco 49ers selected the Alabama TE with the 101st pick overall in the 2023 NFL Draft Friday. Looking to find another option behind Kittle, Latu is a big-bodied, physical, route-running tight end, a position the 49ers love to utilize in the open field.
Picking one with a third-round pick, Latu could be a invaluable offensive contributor by the middle of the 2023 season.

Cameron Latu, 23, played four seasons for the Crimson Tide, skipping the 2020 season due to COVID-19. The Minnesotan became a valuable offensive weapon for quarterback Bryce Young, snagging 56 catches in two seasons. He also finished his collegiate career with 787 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. His biggest weaknesss is drops, doing on 11% of his targets in college.
Latu will need to learn the Kyle Shanahan offense quickly this offseason, but that shouldn’t be a problem, already very familiar with the 49ers’ style of play.
“I try to model my game after George (Kittle)” Latu said at his introductory press conference Friday. “A lot of the run stuff we do at Alabama, we stole from the 49ers.”

Barring any trades, the 49ers will have multiple picks in three of the final seven rounds. Round 7 will see the Red & Gold make four selections. Here’s a breakdown of where they’re picking:
