San Francisco 49ers select CB Darrell Luter Jr in fifth round
The San Francisco 49ers have added some depth in the secondary, drafting Southern Alabama CB Darrell Luter Jr. in the fifth round.

After another long wait on Day 3 of the 2023 NFL Draft, the 49ers have added some much-needed cornerback depth.
With the 155th overall pick, the San Francisco 49ers have selected CB Darrell Luter Jr. from Southern Alabama. Known as a physical cover-man, Luter will look play both on the outside and inside for the 49ers, using his versatility to his advantage.
A former zero-star receipt coming out of high school, the Mississippi native will look to provide competition for the fellow CBs on the Red & Gold’s roster.

Darrell Luter, 23, started three seasons for Southern Alabama, playing in 31 total games in college. He recorded 91 total tackles, five interceptions and 18 passes defended. Luter finished the 2022 season with a 70.1 overall PFF score, also running a 4.46 40-yard dash and a 40.5″ vertical.
Having a Top-30 visit with San Francisco last week, Luter hit it off with defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, feeling connection with him and the defense right away.
“When I got to meet him like it was just the vibe was there. I connected with him instantly. He loved everything that I was talking about when we was watching film. Me and him connected very well. I felt like I had a real good vibe with him,” Luter said at his introductory press conference Saturday.

Remaining picks for the San Francisco 49ers
Barring any trades, the 49ers will have multiple picks in three of the final seven rounds. Round 7 will see the Red & Gold make three selections. Here’s a breakdown of where they’re picking:

- Round 7 -No. 247, 253, 255
