Draymond Green #23 of the Golden State Warriors drives to the basket against Harrison Barnes #40 of the Sacramento Kings during the first quarter in game seven of the Western Conference First Round Playoffs at Golden 1 Center on April 30, 2023 in Sacramento, California.

The Sacramento Kings enter the offseason hoping to replicate the magic they created with their most memorable season in nearly two years.

For the first time since 2006, the Kings made the playoffs, going seven games against the defending champion Golden State Warriors. Unfortunately, the results were not what fans hoped. And now a week removed from the team’s final game of the 2022-23 season, it’s time to look toward the future.

With the team’s core — De’Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis, Kevin Huerter, Keegan Murray and Malik Monk — locked up for next season, there are a few holes the organization will have to fill.

Most of the team’s free agents are unrestricted, meaning said player can sign with any team. And once said player signs with that team, they are a member of that organization. On the other hand, a restricted free agent can sign an offer sheet with any team, but the player’s original team can match that offer sheet.

  • Harrison Barnes
  • Terence Davis
  • Alex Len
  • Chimezie Metu
  • Trey Lyles
  • Matthew Dellavedova

During his exit interview with the press, Barnes said he is going into the offseason as if he is a member of the organization and will do so “until told otherwise.”

“It would be special. I mean, I have equity here in Sacramento,” Barnes said on a potential return. “We know it’s a business and a lot of things happen, but continuing on with this group would be special.”

Wildcards

Kessler Edwards doesn’t fit into either unrestricted or restricted categories. The Kings hold a $1.9 million team option for the 2023-24 season on Edwards.

And finally, there’s Sasha Vezenkov. Last summer, the Sacramento Kings acquired the NBA rights to Sasha Vezenkov from the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for a second-round pick. After the trade, Vezenkov was rumored to be interested in a move to the NBA but instead chose to play another season in Piraeus, Greece, playing for the EuroLeague club, Olympiacos B.C. Does he change his mind now that’s he’s seen a successful Kings team?
