Update

On the first day of the NFL Spring League Meeting, the league officially announced the Super Bowl is coming back to the Bay Area.

“The Bay Area was an incredible host for Super Bowl 50, and we are thrilled to bring the Super Bowl back,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a press release. “We look forward to working with the 49ers and the Bay Area Host Committee to create an impactful Super Bowl LX in 2026 that showcases all the great things the region has to offer.”

Original Story

If all goes to plan, the Bay Area could host both the World Cup and another Super Bowl, in 2026.

Reports surfaced Thursday that Levi’s Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49ers, is expected to be awarded Super Bowl LX (60) in 2026. The NFL is expected to meet with the owners at next week’s spring meetings, making the 2026 location official by the end. Las Vegas has been awarded the 2024 game, while New Orleans will host in 2025.

The Sports Business Journal was first to report the news, with local media and The Athletic confirming it thereafter.

This comes almost 10 years after Levi Stadium held Super Bowl 50 between the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers. The Broncos and quarterback Peyton Manning emerged victorious, 24-10, over Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers.

The Red & Gold have been the rumored frontrunner for quite some time. San Francisco reportedly secured a substantial loan from the league office for stadium renovations in February. Levi’s is one of the 11 American host venues for the 2026 World Cup, with SoFi Stadium in LA being the other California host.

“If the Bay Area has the opportunity, we would be honored to host Super Bowl LX,” 49ers president Al Guido said in a statement.

“My optimism is very high,” 49ers CEO Jed York said in late March. “I feel fairly confident. I don’t know for sure we’re going to get Super Bowl 60, but I feel very confident we’re going to get a Super Bowl in the near future.

“And it would be great to get Super Bowl 60 after hosting Super Bowl 50. It feels like Super Bowl 50 wasn’t that long ago.”
