The Las Vegas Raiders are in the midst of their mandatory minicamp and their star running back appears to be the only one missing.

Raiders coach Josh McDaniels said the organization has roughly 90 players in attendance for minicamp, which runs through Thursday, June 8. Running back Josh Jacobs is missing because he’s “the only one that’s not under contract.”

In March, the Raiders franchise tagged Jacobs and last season’s rushing leader has not yet signed his tender. If Jacobs signs the franchise tender, the 2023 franchise tag for running backs is just over $10 million. Jacobs and the Raiders have until mid-July to reach a long-term deal.

“I respect everything about that process,” McDaniels said. “This is not the first time that that’s happened in terms of me being a part of that. Like I said, I stand by what I said before, love the kid, love the player, love the person and look forward to when I see him.”

Prior to the 2022 season, the Raiders declined to pick up the fifth-year option for the 24th pick in the 2019 draft.

Then he went off. Josh Jacobs rushed for 1,653 total yards, securing the NFL’s rushing title and becoming only the second Raider to win the NFL’s rushing title. Raider legend and Hall of Fame running back Marcus Allen led the league in rushing in 1985, his MVP season, with 1,759 yards.

At the NFL Honors ceremony earlier this year, Jacobs was named the inaugural winner of the Jim Brown Award, which honors players with the most rushing yards in a season. He was also honored with the NFL’s FedEx Ground Player of the Year award. Twice throughout the season, the Raiders running back was named the FedEx Ground Player of the Week. In one of those weeks, he set the Raiders’ single-game rushing record when he ran for 229 rushing yards against the Seattle Seahawks.
