Green Bay Packers tight end and Folsom High School alum Josiah Deguara is returning home this weekend to give back to the community he learned so much from.

On Saturday, June 17, Deguara and friends are hosting a free youth football camp. Joining him are Folsom High alumni and current Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Jake Browning and offensive lineman Jonah Williams.

The idea for the camp came together last year while Deguara and Browning were working out in the offseason.

“It’s just a great community, a great community of people, a great community, a great football community, as well,” Deguara said. “And that’s the thing that me and Jake said when we got together and decided to get the ball rolling with this thing, we really wanted to give back to the community that kind of raised us.”

Kids who attend will learn football drills and fundamentals, play games and receive lunch and a t-shirt.

“First of all, I just hope they have a great time. Football is a game at the end of the day, obviously, it’s our profession, but it’s a game. Growing up, you should have fun doing it. So I hope they just go out there and enjoy their time, have fun doing it, and hopefully also learn some stuff while they’re at it,” Deguara said. “We hope everyone attending can enjoy it and take something from it that they can apply, whether it’s in life, football, whatever it may be,” Deguara said.

During the offseason, he and his wife, who’s also from Folsom, return to Northern California while he trains. And while the three won a state title together in 2015 for Folsom High School, Deguara said his experience growing up in Folsom and playing football was bigger than any championship.

“It’s the friends you create, the community you surround yourself with,” Deguara said.
