Another week, another Brock Purdy update.

A report surfaced Monday morning that the San Francisco 49ers quarterback is heading to Jacksonville, Florida for a few weeks as he continues to rehab his surgically-repaired elbow. Purdy will work with throwing coach Will Hewlett and orthopedic specialist Tom Gormely, as he continues his offseason throwing program.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero broke the news Monday.

The Iowa State alum has been on the mend since suffering the UCL injury in the NFC Championship game. Undergoing surgery in March, the QB is on pace to be fully cleared by Week 1 of the regular season. But while San Francisco remains hopeful, they won’t rush Purdy back in fear of re-aggravating the injury.

“They’re [49ers] optimistic, but don’t know, that he’ll be ready for opening day,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on The Pat McAfee show last Wednesday. “But there’s still a whole way to go, there’s a whole plan in place…Everything that he does will be closely monitored all summer long…[He’s checked all the boxes] so far.”

Purdy outlined his plans in Jacksonville last month at 49ers OTAs, wanting to keep working to perfect his throwing motion before the season.

“I want to just make sure my mechanics and everything are right,” Purdy said on May 23 regarding the Florida trip. “So, I’ll go down, work with them for a couple of weeks, and then get back here.”

San Francisco has maintained a similar stance all offseason, wanting to let Purdy heal while the healthy gunslingers (Trey Lance & Sam Darnold) take charge of the offense for now.

“We’re taking it very slowly,” coach Kyle Shanahan previously said about Brock Purdy. “It’s not like you just jump out and push stuff. You’re only supposed to throw on this date at this percentage, these many yards, and then you do a certain amount a couple days later and if you stay on track it should heal the right way. And right now, everything’s right on track and I don’t ask three weeks ahead. You just keep trying to stay on that trajectory.”
