Shortly following Tuesday’s introductory press conference at Golden 1 Center, new Sacramento Kings guard Colby Jones spoke to Sactown Sports 1140 for a brief exclusive.

During last Thursday’s NBA Draft, Sacramento sent the 38th overall pick and a future second-round pick to the Boston Celtics in return for Jones, who Boston selected with the 34th pick on the Kings’ behalf.

Jones, a 6’5 wing that can play the two and three, was a threat from beyond the arc during the 2022-23 season, shooting 38 percent from three-point range while pulling down 5.7 rebounds per game.

The newest member of ‘The Beam Team’ spoke highly of his new city and fanbase during an exclusive interview with Sactown Sports.

“It’s been nothing but love since I got here so far,” Jones said when asked how he feels to be an NBA player following three seasons with the Xavier Musketeers.

Jones is the exact type of player that Sacramento targeted in this wing-loaded draft, a guard-forward combo that can use his 6’8 wingspan to defend the one-through three positions and act as a threat from three-point land.

The 21-year-old ranked 9th in the Big East in points per game, 15th in three-point field goal percentage, and 13th in steals per game.

Defense is an aspect of Jones’ game that has Kings fans feeling hopeful that the team can begin to turn things around on that end of the floor following a rough showing in 2022-23 (25th in defensive rating).

The incoming rookie says that he takes pride in his defensive ability, noting that he started honing his defensive skills at a young age.

“I’ve always prided myself on offense and defense, but especially defense,” Jones said. “Because when I was growing up, you weren’t going to get on the court if you didn’t play defense, so it’s always just been something that I’ve had.”

Jones will be joining a Sacramento roster that includes star guard De’Aaron Fox, bruising big man Domantas Sabonis, and sharpshooters like Keegan Murray and Kevin Huerter. When asked how he thinks he will fit

“It’s really just free-flowing. They have a lot of freedom,” Jones said of the Kings’ offense. “They play with a lot of confidence, and that’s what I like. I feel like at Xavier we had a similar offense, so I feel like I’ll be able to come in and fit right in.”

During Jones’ exclusive interview with Sactown Sports 1140, the newest Sacramento Kings guard shared which player that he’s most excited to play alongside on this roster, talked about his excitement in playing for head coach Mike Brown, and answered the most important question of all:

Has he had In-n-Out since arriving in Sacramento?
