A key member of the Sacramento Kings will be returning for at least three more years.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Kings have reached an agreement with forward Harrison Barnes on a three-year, $54 million contract extension that will keep him in Sacramento through the 2025-26 season.

While the NBA’s free agency period is set to open at 3:00 PM PST on Friday, the Kings took care of one of its own by inking Barnes to a multi-year extension.

According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick, Barnes’ new contract with Sacramento has a 10 percent trade kicker.

Barnes, who was acquired from the Dallas Mavericks in a trade deadline deal back on February 7, 2019, has spent more of his career in a Sacramento Kings jersey than anywhere else.

The 10-year veteran spent four-and-a-half seasons with the Kings, averaging 15.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 47 percent from the field and 38 percent from three-point range over 317 games (all starts).

Barnes played in 317 of 336 possible games during his time with Sacramento, meaning the forward played in 94.3% of his team’s games from 2019 through 2023.

Now that Barnes is back in a Kings uniform for years to come and guard Chris Duarte is reportedly being acquired from Indiana, the Kings will enter free agency with around $13.5 million of cap space.

Here’s how Sacramento can use that room, per Spotrac’s Keith Smith:

The first dominos have fallen in the Sacramento Kings’ offseason. Now, it’s time to look ahead to what is shaping up to be a busy free agency period around the NBA.

Does Kings GM Monte McNair have more moves up his sleeve?
