Raider fans may not see Josh Jacobs until the start of the 2023 regular season.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero told Rich Eisen on Tuesday that he doesn’t anticipate last year’s rushing leader, “being there at the start of training camp and I don’t know that he shows up Week 1.” Pelissero also said Jacobs couldn’t be fined for not showing up because he hasn’t signed his franchise tender.

Jacobs did not take part in any of the team’s off-season workouts or team activities. At the time, Las Vegas Raiders coach Josh McDaniels said he is respecting the process.

“This is not the first time that that’s happened in terms of me being a part of that,” McDaniels said. “Like I said, I stand by what I said before, love the kid, love the player, love the person and look forward to when I see him.”

In March, the Raiders franchise tagged Jacobs. If he signs the franchise tender, the 2023 franchise tag for running backs is just over $10 million.

Jacobs and the Raiders have until July 17 to reach a long-term deal. According to the NFL, “after this date, the player may sign only a one-year contract with his prior club for the 2023 season, and such contract cannot be extended until after the club’s last regular season game.”

Prior to the 2022 season, the Raiders declined to pick up the fifth-year option for the 24th pick in the 2019 draft.

Then he went off. Josh Jacobs rushed for 1,653 total yards, securing the NFL’s rushing title and becoming only the second Raider to win the NFL’s rushing title. Raider legend and Hall of Fame running back Marcus Allen led the league in rushing in 1985, his MVP season, with 1,759 yards.
