The 49ers have signed some secondary help right before training camp, with the player being a native of the 916.

The San Francisco 49ers have announced the signing of cornerback Terrance Mitchell Tuesday, giving him a one-year deal. He most recently played for the Tennessee Titans in 2022, and has been in the NFL since 2015. More details on the contract have not been released at this time.

Mitchell, 31, is a Sacramento native, starring at Luther Burbank High School in the early 2000s to early 2010s. He went on to star at Oregon, playing three collegiate seasons for the Ducks. He finished college with 144 total tackles, seven interceptions and 25 pass defenses. Drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2014 NFL Draft, Mitchell has had a journeyman career in the pros.

He has played for six teams prior to joining the 49ers, including the Tennessee Titans, Kansas City Chiefs and the Chicago Bears. His longest tenure came with the Cleveland Browns, playing three seasons in Ohio. Mitchell suited up for  94 career contests, racking up more than 300 combined tackles. He also has 63 PDs and nine INTs to his name.

Likely added for more training camp depth, Mitchell should not be seen as an immediate starter for the Red & Gold.

The 49ers also announced Tuesday that punter Mitch Wishnowsky has been placed on the Active/Non-Football Injury List (NFI). The Australian special-teamer hurt his back weight lifting away from the team’s facility, and is expect to be held out of practice for a short time.

With rookie CB Darrell Luter Jr. placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list (PUP) Tuesday, Terrance Mitchell will compete for depth spots on the 49ers roster.
