Kyle Shanahan provides updates on Brock Purdy, Nick Bosa
Kyle Shanahan is happy with the progression of QB Brock Purdy, while also giving no timeline on when a deal for Nick Bosa will be done.

Four days into training camp, Kyle Shanahan is ready to get the pads back on his players.
The offensive-minded head coach has been happy with what he’s seen from the 49ers so far, but that doesn’t mean he can make full assessments just yet. In order for him to do that, the pads have be in play.
“I don’t give too many opinions, high or low, until the pads come on.” the head coach said Sunday.
Nonetheless, Shanahan is thrilled with what he’s seen from his current quarterback room, especially Brock Purdy.
The former Mr. Irrelevant has been working his way back from UCL surgery all summer. Recently cleared to practice, Purdy has been rusty the first two days, going 3-10 and 6-12, respectively. Missing deep balls to wideouts, his timing is the last thing that has returned to him, needing some more work with the first team.
Despite that, Kyle Shanahan is pleased with his young QB’s comeback.
“I think he’s done great,” Shanahan stated. “I think he’s getting all of his timing back, his rhythm. I was really impressed with him in those two practices.”
Splitting recovery time between three different states, Purdy has progressed at an accelerated pace since having elbow surgery in March. The quarterback is now at a point where the pain is gone, the arm fatigue is minimal, and it’s about stacking days together.
All of that, especially his mindset, has pleased Shanahan entering the 2023 season.
“Brock’s is so detailed and committed in everything he does, so he didn’t miss one day,” Shanahan said. “Every rep that he takes, he gets better in his health and he’s just delivered in everything he does. How committed he was to doing that, to be in here, to come down to Florida from Arizona. If he was gonna have a setback and something went wrong, [that] was the only way we felt he wasn’t gonna be ahead of schedule by what he does.”
Taking a rest day Sunday, the 49ers have adopted a “two on, two off” approach to Purdy’s practice schedule. The team hopes to increase his reps with each passing week, until he can go everyday with no limitations.

San Francisco has a different problem on the other side of the football, with Nick Bosa still not at 49ers HQ.
The star pass rusher has been vying for a contract extension all summer, with a new deal likely making him the highest-paid guy on defense. That deal has not materialized yet, now five days into players reporting for training camp. And it seems the 49ers Faithful will have to wait a little longer for him to reemerge.

While the team prefers to have the contract done by now, there is little worry that a long-term extension will be completed before Week 1 of the regular season.
For now, Kyle Shanahan is focused on the players on the field, eager as ever to get the pads on Monday. While the install is nice, the coach prefers to have each day at full speed for his team.
