It’s been almost a week since players have reported to 49ers training camp, and Nick Bosa is still without a new contract according to John Lynch.

San Francisco’s general manager provided no real update on contract talks for the star pass rusher, preaching privacy as they negotiate an extension. Lynch instead stressed patience with the media, feeling in due time, a contract will come to fruition.

“I’m very confident [a deal will get done],” John Lynch said Monday. “Ultimately, this will work out.”

But while the team is confident a deal with be done, that doesn’t mean they didn’t want him back yesterday. While Bosa is the last person they’d worry about being out of shape, the 49ers need him in the fold to maximize their potential.

“We have to strike the right mix of urgency. I don’t like this. I don’t like not having one of our best players here. But I also understand it and understand we’ll have to exhibit some patience,” Lynch added. “I remain confident that we’ll come to an agreement and get things taken care of.”

Bosa, 25, is coming off the best season of his career, winning Defensive Player of the Year. The Ohio State alum finished the 2022 with 18.5 sacks, the most in the NFL. He also had 48 quarterback hits and 60 combined tackles.

One of the best players in football, the 49ers know they need him to make a deep playoff run this season. But as of now, the player is staying away from the team until a new deal materializes.

“One of the best teammates,” John Lynch stated about Bosa. “This is the guy that addresses our team every Saturday. Just uses his wisdom and looking forward to the day he’s back [with the team]”.
