After a long and uneasy last few months, the Josh Jacobs saga in Las Vegas has come to a close, for now.

Reports surfaced Saturday morning that the Las Vegas Raiders and the running back had agreed on a new and improved one-year deal.

The contract will reportedly be worth up to $12 million for this year, with an $11.8 million base salary. While the short-term deal will only keep Jacobs with the Raiders through this season, having him back in the building was the main priority.

“I love him, I love Josh. He’s phenomenal. He was the heart of our team,” owner Mark Davis told ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez after the deal was announced. “He came to play every day. Tough, tough, tough guy… If we had 22 Josh Jacobs… with that mentality, amazing.”

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport broke the news Saturday, with the organization and player making it official thereafter.

Josh Jacobs, 25, has been away from the Raiders for most of the summer, unwilling to sign the franchise tag for the 2023 season. Wanting long-term money, the Alabama alum has not practiced with the team for the entire training camp. The holdout came to a head this week, with Jacobs and his agent, Chad Wiestling, flying to Nevada to iron out a deal.

In the end, it all works out it seems.

Jacobs is coming off a monster 2022 season, leading the NFL in rushing yards (1653). The hard-nosed ball carrier also had 12 rushing touchdowns and 400 receiving yards, finishing the year with more than 2000 yards from scrimmage. The halfback took home his first All-Pro selection of his young career, along with his second Pro Bowl nod.
