Wednesday’s press conference with 49ers general manager John Lynch didn’t provide many answers to the lingering Nick Bosa saga.

The San Francisco 49ers’ GM was moot on the subject of contract talks, keeping negotiations secretive at this time. The only piece of information that Lynch did reveal though, is that the organization is still in communication with their star pass rusher.

“No updates,” John Lynch told the media Wednesday. “But [there’s] communication and that’s a good thing.”

The last few days have seen a lot of speculation flying around about Bosa. From national reporters hinting at a deal not being imminent, to Reddit users suggesting that a trade is on the horizon, it’s been a long few weeks for the Red & Gold. And while the front office couldn’t comment further on how talks are going, they did shut down any and all of the rumors that have been swirling around.

“No,” Lynch said bluntly who asked about a Bosa trade. “Real simple.”

“No,” coach Kyle Shanahan stated earlier in the day about a trade. “I feel pretty strongly and I think everyone would agree with that.”

So there you have it: The 49ers (probably) aren’t trading Nick Bosa, with the team still confident that he will be back in the building by Week 1 of the regular season.

But that doesn’t mean there isn’t pressure to get it done. Lynch especially feels uncomfortable with how long it has taken to get the mega-deal done for Bosa.

“Yes,” he said when asked if he thought this would be finished by now. “It is where it is.”

Not a lot of great vibes there to hang your hat on if you’re a 49ers fan.

Nick Bosa, 25, is coming off a career season in 2022, leading the NFL in sacks (18.5). A player entering his prime, the 49ers understand that they will have to shell out the big bucks to keep him around. The kicker will be how the contract is structured, with maximum money very much on the table.

That could be what’s holding up both sides from coming to an agreement. Regardless, all sides believe this deal will come to fruition before the team’s regular-season opener versus the Pittsburgh Steelers.
