The San Francisco 49ers will be close to full strength for their trip to SoFi Stadium, with a Dre Greenlaw clear to play ahead of Week 2.

The 49ers announced that the linebacker (groin) was a full participant during Friday’s walkthrough, leading many to believe that he would be back on the field Sunday. That is in fact the case, with coach Kyle Shanahan confirming the news at his Friday press conference.

Greenlaw, 26, has been a vital part of the 49ers’ defense the last few years, having a breakout 2022 season where he racked up 127 combined tackles. He had a solid start to 2023 as well, finishing with six tackles and one tackle for loss in Week 1.

Signing a two-year extension last fall, Greenlaw will remain with the franchise through the 2024 season.

San Francisco will be missing a player for some time, however, as cornerback Samuel Womack is out with a knee injury.

The second-year DB popped up on the 49ers’ injury report Thursday, missing practice due to the ailment. Upon leaving the locker that day, Womack was spotted with a heavy brace on his left leg, indicating that he would have an extended absence.

Already declared out for this weekend, Womack will make his way to the short-term injured reserve, suffering an injury to his MCL. The 49ers expect him to be back on the field in six to eight weeks.

Despite that, the 49ers enter Week 2 with a relatively healthy squad, a must if they want to make a deep postseason run in early 2024.
