Deebo Samuel and the 49ers offense started Week 2 in rhythm, marching down the field with a big drive. But that didn’t surprise him. What did was the points they could have scored.

The San Francisco 49ers’ wide receiver recapped the team’s Week 2 win over the Los Angeles Rams Sunday. While the visitors were the victors in the end, it was a hard-fought battle that Samuel and the rest of the offense were ready for.

“We just come out here, execute at a high level,” Deebo Samuel said postgame Sunday. “It was a hard-fought battle. They came out here [and] just kind of went for it. They know us, we know them, and we knew it was gonna be a grind.”

The Rams and 49ers took turns with the lead until late in the third quarter.

Up by three, San Francisco cashed in from 11 yards out thanks to an electrifying Samuel run. Getting a backward pass from quarterback Brock Purdy, the wideout weaved his way to the outside, evading Rams defenders as he did so. Then, he cut back inside along the left sideline, barreling his way into the endzone for a ten-point lead.

When discussing the momentum-swinging play, Samuel kept it real, realizing the chance to score as the play was developing.

“We knew I was gonna be one-on-one with the corner and he shot his guns, but luckily, he shot at my foot,” Samuel said with a chuckle.

But while the team is happy with the win, there are a few plays they have to clean up on offense.

A few botched snaps and miscommunication hampered a couple of drives for the Red & Gold Sunday. Additionally, Purdy missed a handful of throws that would have extended the 49ers’ lead at SoFi Stadium.

It’s not the end of the world because San Francisco won. But they strive for perfection on the gridiron, with Samuel knowing that coach Kyle Shanahan is going to have the team do a long film study this week.

“Oh 100%, we’re gonna watch this hard. We know Kyle’s gonna come down on us hard for this,” Samuel stated. “You know, we missed a lot of opportunities out there. I feel like we left like four touchdowns out there.

“But you know, that’s what practice is for, that’s what we’re gonna keep building, week-in-week-out, to get better in that area.”
