The San Francisco 49ers emerged from Week 2’s win with only a few scratches across the roster, the biggest name being Brandon Aiyuk.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed Sunday that the wide receiver suffered a shoulder injury against the L.A. Rams, appearing in and out of the lineup for the rest of the day. While the coach didn’t have an update on the player’s injury Monday morning, he did reveal that the injury occurred in the opening series of the game.

“Yeah, it happened on his first catch when he landed on his shoulder. I believe it was his first catch,” Shanahan said about Brandon Aiyuk during his Monday conference call.

The injury is not considered serious at this time but is worth monitoring with Thursday’s clash with the Giants on the horizon.

The 49ers coach was also asked about his running backs Monday, specifically his usage of Christian McCaffrey.

McCaffrey, 27, was the only RB to see the field in Week 2, rushing 20 times for 116 yards. While they won the game, the lack of usage for other tailbacks, especially Elijah Mitchell, was surprising for many. And Shanahan knows that, admitting that was not the plan on Sunday.

“Yeah, we’ve definitely got to get Elijah in there more and do better with our rotation than we did yesterday. That wasn’t the plan going in. It just ended up that way and I’ve got to make sure that doesn’t happen,” Shanahan said.

Through the first two weeks, Mitchell has five carries for 10 yards total.

Another topic of conversation was Brock Purdy and his overthrows in Week 2.

The young quarterback had a solid showing against the Rams but sailed a few passes deep that would have been touchdowns for the visitors. Kyle Shanahan isn’t worried about it though, more so pleased that Purdy protected the ball throughout the contest.

“No, just missed them. Similar to what I said last night, they were pretty clear and I thought two of them were harder than the other. But, I do think Brock had a hell of a game,” the coach said about his QB. “That’s really the only thing that I feel like we can say negative about his game is those three misses, which are always big ones, especially when they’re down the field because it’s usually points. But he played a pretty good game.”
