Report: Multiple members of Browns offense expected to miss Sunday’s game vs 49ers

Deshaun Watson may not be the only Cleveland Browns out Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.

CBS Sports NFL Insider Josina Anderson reported on Thursday that the Browns are unlikely to play Watson on Sunday. On Friday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, Browns ruled out Watson for Sunday’s game. Cleveland confirmed the report Friday afternoon after their quarterback had not practiced all week. Watson injured his shoulder in the team’s Week 3 win over the Tennesee Titans.

Following those reports, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com added that G Joel Bitonio and TE David Njoku are also likely to miss Sunday’s matchup.

In Week 4, the Browns elected to go with rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson as their starter, who threw three interceptions in the 28-3 loss. Cleveland had a bye in Week 5.

The Browns will go with former XFL quarterback P.J. Walker. The 28-year-old veteran has played in 15 games in the NFL, all previously with the Carolina Panthers. Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt spoke positively of Sunday’s starter during his weekly press conference.

“He looks good. He throws the ball really well. I liked him coming out when I was in Green Bay,” Van Pelt said of Walker at his press conference Thursday. “We were talking about our visit he had up to Green Bay earlier before the draft. I always thought he was a really good quarterback, so I followed him through my time evaluating him in college and through his career. I think he does a nice job.”
