Oakland A’s relief pitcher Trevor May announced via Twitch Monday his plans to hang up his cleats and retire.

The 34-year-old right-handed pitcher was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 4th round of the 2008 MLB June Amateur Draft. May only spent last season with the A’s after spending the majority of his career between the Minnesota Twins and the New York Mets. He retires with a career .424 ERA, 520 strikeouts, and a record of 26-28 in 358 games.

In a social media post, he thanked his teammates, the fans, and his family for their years of support. He also shout out the Oakland A’s for letting him, “finish his career strong.” During his lone year in Oakland, May recorded 40 strikeouts with a 3.28 ERA.

That wasn’t his only reference to Oakland in his retirement announcement. During his Twitch stream Monday night, Trevor May took some shots at A’s owner John Fisher.

“Now that it is official, to the A’s organization and every single person who’s a part of it, I love all of you. Every single one of you except for one guy. And we all know who that guy is. Sell the team, dude,” May says, adding he tried to order a Sell shirt for his stream but it didn’t arrive in time. “Let someone who actually takes pride in the things they own own something. There’s actually people who give a s— about the game. Let them do it. Take Mommy and Daddy’s money somewhere else, dork.”

May goes on to say he struggled this year with not “eviscerating that guy.” Fans can watch the full announcement here, with his thoughts on the A’s and John Fisher starting at the 59-minute mark.

Where do Oakland Athletics relocation plans stand?

Plans to relocate accelerated this year when the organization changed direction after years of trying to work with the city of Oakland and a new stadium at Howard Terminal and announced multiple binding agreements with Las Vegas properties.

Ultimately, the team landed a spot at the Tropicana where a $1.5 billion, nine-acre stadium is expected to be built. The ballpark,Ā which was granted $380 in public funding for constructionĀ earlier this summer, would include a retractable roof and roughly 30,000 seats. Early estimates claim the ballpark could open in time for the 2028 season.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said he hopes a vote takes place this November.

Las Vegas would be the fourth home for the franchise. The team originates from Philadelphia where they played from 1901-1954. The Athletics then moved to Kansas City until 1968, when they relocated to Oakland. The Aā€™s have been looking to either update or move out of the Oakland Coliseum for years.

If and when the team is relocated, they will need a temporary home because the Athleticsā€™ lease at the Coliseum concludes at the end of the 2024 MLB season.
