Draymond Green expects Sacramento to be ‘a very fun environment to play in’

Nov 27, 2023, 12:07 PM

Tuesday’s matchup between the Kings and Warriors will see the return of Draymond Green to Golden State’s lineup following a five-game suspension.

The NBA suspended the Golden State Warriors forward following an altercation with Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert. During an In-Season Tournament game between the Warriors and Timberwolves, Klay Thompson and Jaden McDaniels got tangled up while jogging across halfcourt. From there, Rudy Gobert ran in to defend his teammate, with Draymond Green following. Green quickly pulled Gobert away and into what appeared to be a headlock. Green was ejected from that game along with Jaden McDaniels and Klay Thompson, however, Green was the only one to receive a suspension.

This past week, Draymond Green spoke to the media for the first time since his suspension. When asked about returning against a team that he has a history with, Green said he expects the Golden 1 Center to have a “game seven” atmosphere.

“I think it’ll be fun, a lot of fun,” Green said. “You can never be so certain until you get in the game and actually feel the environment…But what I expect, I expect it to be a very fun environment to play in.”

Despite already playing the Warriors twice this season, Tuesday’s game is the first time the Kings will see Draymond Green since last year’s playoffs.

What happened the last time Draymond Green was in Sacramento?

The last time the veteran forward/center played against Sacramento was in the thrilling first-round playoff matchup.

The Kings took the Warriors to seven games, but ultimately fell in the end. During the series, Green was suspended for one game after stomping on Domantas Sabonis’ chest.

After the series, Green said on his podcast he gained a lot of respect for the Kings but did have some parting words for Sabonis after the big man left the floor without shaking hands with Golden State following game seven’s loss.

“Lost a lot of respect for Sabonis. You don’t shake guys’ hands after you lose, I don’t respect that,” Greens said. “I once left the court when we lost in Game 7 to the Cleveland Cavaliers, and I went to my locker room and sat down, and I said ‘this don’t feel right’. Then I walked back out on the court and I showed everybody love. You lost. Deal with it. Pay your respects. That was wack to me. I wouldn’t even say lost respect, but that’s wack to me. I don’t respect that.”
