NBA Hall of Famer Gary Payton joined “The Drive Guys” to talk about the rivalry brewing between the Kings and Warriors, his son’s health after suffering an injury in Tuesday’s loss, if the NBA still needs enforcers, and more.

Born and raised in Oakland, Payton cut his teeth playing for the Seattle SuperSonics for the majority of his career. The last five years of his career included stops with the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics and Miami Heat where he won his lone NBA Championship.

Topics discussed include:

  • Are there scheduled losses in the NBA when teams have back-to-back games?
  • The Kings won’t be “a great team” until they’re putting fear in teams visiting the Golden 1 Center
  • Does the modern NBA need enforcer-type players?
  • How do the Sacramento Kings fit within the Western Conference?
  • Growing up and playing basketball in Oakland with Jason Kidd, Henry Turner and other Bay Area natives
  • The best trash talkers who played against Gary Payton
  • The chemistry between Payton and Shawn Kemp
  • Why there aren’t more two-way players in the NBA today
  • Kings and Warriors turned into rivals once Mike Brown took the head coaching job in Sacramento
  • His son’s health after suffering an injury against the Kings
