Sacramento Kings assistant coach Jay Triano joined “The Drive Guys” Friday afternoon to talk about the team’s recent loss to the Clippers, how they’re preparing for the Denver Nuggets on Saturday, and more.

Through 17 games this season, the Kings are 10-7. At the same point last season, the Sacramento Kings were 10-7. However, the biggest difference so far this year has been the team’s offense and the team’s health. De’Aaron Fox, Keegan Murray, Alex Len, and Trey Lyles have all missed time due to injuries.

“I think our defense is getting better, it’s better than it was a year ago. Our offense is obviously not at the same pace right now, I think a lot of that has to do with the continuity and our shooting hasn’t been great,” Triano said, assessing the Kings’ performance through 17 games. “I just don’t feel like we’re playing as well as we did a year ago, [but] I think that’s a good sign. I think once we start playing better, building some continuity with the different lineups, we’ll be in a really good spot.”

Additional topics discussed include:

  • The theme at Friday’s practice after Wednesday’s tough loss to the Clippers
  • How coach Mike Brown holds the players and coaches accountable so there’s “no complacency”
  • What happened to the offense to drop to 12th in efficiency this season
  • Struggling with free throws this season
  • What he sees from De’Aaron Fox on and off the court
  • Keegan Murray’s ability to guard the opponent’s premiere player
  • The challenges when facing the Denver Nuggets
  • Being able to coach an international team
