The San Francisco 49ers may have won the battle in Philly, but they left the East Coast with a slew of injuries, including Sacramento native Arik Armstead.

The 49ers defensive lineman is dealing with foot and knee issues after Week 13’s win over the Eagles, per coach Kyle Shanahan. The team is unsure if the player will miss any time moving forward, as they continue to gather more information.

Arik Armstead, 30, had already been dealing with a foot injury for a few weeks, missing the first two practice sessions leading up to the game. The knee ailment is new however, likely suffering the injury early on in Philadelphia. He has a history of lower-body injuries, missing half the 2022 regular season due to plantar fasciitis.

Additionally, the 49ers lost tight end depth as Ross Dwelley suffered a high-ankle sprain Sunday, and will miss a few weeks because of it. San Francisco has three other TEs rostered and is not considering adding another member at this time. That includes former Pro Bowler Zach Ertz.

“I haven’t heard anything now, so I don’t think so at this time. But I have a lot of respect for him as a player. I’ve always been a fan,” Shanahan said about Ertz Monday. “But right now, at least from my standpoint, we’re good with our group. But we have injuries and things change. So we’ll look into all options as always.”

The 49ers also lost cornerback Darrell Luter Jr. (hamstring) for at least one week, while wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud (rib) and right guard Spencer Burford (knee) are also banged up.

Shanahan less upset over Greenlaw ejection

Over 24 hours later, Kyle Shanahan is still upset over the Dre Greenlaw ejection in Week 13. However, he understands that tempers flare in-game, believing that the situation between Greenlaw and Eagles head of security Dom DiSandro wasn’t anything personal.

“I don’t think it was that big of a deal, sometimes you’re in areas you’re not supposed to be in and you get close to a player,” Shanahan stated. “I just was upset our player got [ejected] over someone and kicked out of a big game. I don’t think there’s anything that he did extraordinarily bad, guys shouldn’t be around that area. That’s something that I don’t think was totally fair to our player.”

Reports Monday indicate that the NFL will be looking into the incident from Week 13, with a follow-up with the Eagles and DiSandro on the horizon. There is no indication that the 49ers or Greenlaw will receive further consequences at this time.
