Kings sign former Warriors forward Juan Toscano-Anderson

After weeks of leaving its final roster spot open, the Sacramento Kings have made a roster move.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Kings have signed former Golden State Warriors forward Juan Toscano-Anderson to a one-year deal.

Toscano-Anderson, 30, has spent the first month of the 2023-24 regular season with the G-League’s Mexico City Capitanes, where he has averaged 19.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game on 48/31/96 shooting splits over 11 appearances.

The former Warrior took to social media following Wojnarowski’s report with a message for Kings fans:

The Oakland native is back in Northern California after spending the first five seasons with the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, and Utah Jazz.

Toscano-Anderson played a role in helping the Warriors win the 2021-22 NBA Finals as the 6’6, 209-pound wing averaged 4.1 points and 2.2 rebounds per game over 73 appearances (14 in the postseason) en route to winning a title for his hometown team.

After struggling to find consistent minutes with the Lakers and Jazz, ‘JTA’ went to the G-League in an attempt to re-establish himself as a candidate for an NBA roster.

While Toscano-Anderson’s offensive numbers don’t jump off of the page, Sacramento has lacked wing depth and physicality during the opening stages of the regular season.

The veteran forward holds a career defensive rating of 110, which would rank second on this Kings roster that has yet to play consistent defense since the start of last season.

It isn’t likely that JTA slides into Mike Brown’s rotation, but rather that Brown will call on the new wing if Sacramento is struggling to slow down opposing wings, as was the case during Tuesday night’s loss in Los Angeles.

Sacramento needs more players that bring hustle, grit, and defensive impact to the table. 6’10 wingspans don’t hurt, either.

Enter, Juan Toscano-Anderson, who can add to this team’s depth on the defensive end.

When is the next Sacramento Kings game?

Sacramento will return home for a six-game home stand that will tip off on Thursday night against the up-and-coming Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Kings got the best of the Thunder during their lone meeting with OKC on November 10th, with Kevin Huerter (28 points) and Keegan Murray (24 points) leading Sacramento to a 105-98 win with De’Aaron Fox (ankle) sidelined.
