Week 16 was a week to forget for the San Francisco 49ers, now looking to bounce back against the Washington Commanders.

The 49ers travel to The Capitol for New Year’s Eve, facing a Commanders team struggling to stay afloat. But after a disappointing Christmas night loss to the Baltimore Ravens, the Red & Gold can’t let one loss become two Week 17.

And with the No.1 seed in the NFC still alive, San Francisco can’t take their foot off the gas just yet.

The 49ers have a 22-12-1 record all-time against Washington, last beating them, 37-20, Week 16 last season. Quarterback Brock Purdy had 234 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interception in that contest.

The 49ers signal-caller is coming off the worst performance of his young career this week, throwing four picks against the Ravens last Monday. Despite that, San Francisco feels confident that the 24-year-old will bounce back accordingly against the Commanders.

“I just think it’s him. That’s how he is when I coach him,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said about Purdy Friday. “He says what he thinks. I say what I think. He’s a very humble guy, but extremely competitive. That’s just Brock. That’s how I see him handle talking to people out of here. He’s always going to take responsibility. He doesn’t just do it because he knows how to talk to the media. That’s how he looks at things. He always looks inward first and he genuinely feels that way. Sometimes I think he’s too hard on himself in terms of that. Not too hard on himself, that’s just how he is. But it’s cool that he never shows frustration. I think it’s pretty easy for him because I don’t think he has a lot of frustration with other people. I think he always looks at what he can do better.”
