Kings acquire–and plan to waive–Robin Lopez

At long last, the Sacramento Kings have made a trade deadline move, but their acquisition won’t be sticking around.

Point guard Cam Payne and a future second-round pick will be heading back to the 76ers in the swap.

Royce O’Neale joins the Suns

Another Sacramento Kings’ trade target is off the board.

Defensive-minded wing Royce O’Neale is heading to the Phoenix Suns as the Brooklyn Nets are set to receive matching salary and threes second-round picks in return for the 30-year-old.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Phoenix is also receiving forward David Roddy from the Memphis Grizzlies in return for a pick-swap as part of a three-team deal between the Suns, Grizzlies, and Nets.

Dallas continues to add depth with PJ Washington

After acquiring shot-blocking center Daniel Gafford, the Dallas Mavericks aren’t done dealing.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Dallas has acquired forward PJ Washington from the Charlotte Hornets in return for Grant Williams, Seth Curry, and a first-round draft pick.

Washington, 25, is averaging 13.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game on 44-32-71 shooting splits.

Raptors & Nets swap PGs

The Toronto Raptors are sending guard Dennis Schroeder to the Brooklyn Nets in return for Spencer Dinwiddie, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Veteran forward Thaddeus Young is also heading to the Nets with Schroeder.

Knicks acquire two scoring threats

Alec Burks, who spent the 2020-22 seasons in New York, is heading back to the Knicks, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Guard Quentin Grimes and two future second-round picks will complete the package that will be heading to the Detroit Pistons in return for Burks.

Burks, is averaging 12.6 points per game on 40 percent shooting from beyond the arc this season.

The Knicks also swung a trade for one of the most-coveted players on the trade market, as New York will also acquire forward Bojan Bogdanovic from Detroit in return for Evan Fournier and Malachi Flynn.

Bogdanovic is averaging 20.2 points per game on 41.5 percent shooting from deep over 28 games this season.

Mavericks bolster frontline by acquiring Daniel Gafford

The Dallas Mavericks have been searching for front court help, and now they have it.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Mavericks are acquiring center Daniel Gafford from the Washington Wizards in return for former Kings center Richaun Holmes and draft compensation.

Gafford, 25, is averaging 10.9 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game while shooting 69 percent from the field.

OKC brings in Gordon Hayward

The Oklahoma City Thunder have acquired one-time All-Star forward Gordon Hayward, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Charlotte will receive guard Tre Mann and forward Davis Bertans in return for Hayward, who is in the final year of his four-year, $120 million contract that he signed with the Hornets during the 2020-21 offseason.

It was a foregone conclusion that the Thunder were going to look to bring in a scoring wing to bolster its already impressive lineup, and now they will insert Hayward (14.5 points per game on 47/37/76 shooting spits) into their rotation that already includes Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, and Jalen Williams.

Kelly Olynyk heads to Toronto

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Utah Jazz are trading center Kelly Olynyk and guard Ochai Agbaji to the Toronto Raptors in return for guard Kira Lewis Jr., forward Otto Porter Jr., and a 2024 first-round pick.

Olynyk has enjoyed a solid season in 2023-24, averaging 8.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game on 56-42-84 shooting splits.

The veteran big man will join a rebuilding Raptors team that has already acquired guard Immanuel Quickly and forward RJ Barrett during trade season, as forward OG Anunoby was dealt to the New York Knicks last month.

Buddy Hield joins an Eastern Conference Contender

Former Sacramento Kings guard Buddy Hield is set to join the Philadelphia 76ers, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Marcus Morris, Furkan Korkmaz, and three second-round picks are heading to Indiana in the deal, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Hield, 31, is in the final year of the four-year, $94 million deal he signed with the Kings before the 2020-21 season.

Over 52 appearances this season, Hield is averaging 12.0 points (lowest since his rookie season), 3.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists on 38 percent shooting from the three-point line (6.9 attempts per game).

The veteran guard will finally have his shot to play in the postseason before entering free agency this summer, where he is expected to sign another lucrative deal.
