March Madness 2024: What to know about the NCAA Tournament

We’re halfway through the month, which means March Madness 2024 is right around the corner. And not too long after the tournament begins, millions of brackets will be busted.

With so much action over the next three weeks, here’s everything you need to know.

What is Selection Sunday?

This is when we learn which 68 college basketball teams are bracket-bound. Selection Sunday begins at 3 p.m. PST across CBS and ESPN with the men’s bracket first, followed by the women’s bracket at 5 p.m. PST.

How many teams play in the tournament?

Both the men’s and women’s tournaments feature 68 teams. Those then get whittled down throughout March until the Final Four.

When does March Madness tip off?

The first four games take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 19 and 20. These eight teams include the four lowest-seeded automatic qualifiers and the four lowest-seeded at-large teams. Play picks up on Thursday and Friday, March 21 and 22, when the round of 64 begins.

Second-round play begins on Saturday and Sunday, March 23 and 24. Then we move on to the Sweet 16 — March 28 and 29 — and then the Elite Eight — March 30 and 31.

The Final Four tips off on Saturday, April 6, with the championship game on Monday, April 8.

What cities are hosting the tournament?

March Madness 2024 is played in multiple locations across the United States. Cities hosting this year’s tournament include:

  • Dayton
  • Brooklyn
  • Charlotte
  • Indianapolis
  • Omaha
  • Pittsburgh
  • Salt Lake City
  • Spokane
  • Memphis
  • Boston
  • Dallas
  • Detroit
  • Los Angeles

The Final Four takes place in Phoenix at State Farm Stadium.

How to watch the NCAA Tournament?

Men’s games will be shown on CBS, TBS, TNT, TruTV, as well as Paramount+, Max, and the NCAA March Madness Live app. The Final Four and championship game will air on TBS.

The women’s tournament will air on ESPN and ABC services and platforms.

Which teams made the tournament?

The tournament was finalized Sunday night with the University of Connecticut, North Carolina, Houston and Purdue securing one seeds.
