Marcos Benton, Opinion Editor for the Sacramento Bee, joined “The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross” on Thursday morning to dive into his recent piece, explaining why there’s no downside for the state’s capitol to temporarily host the Oakland Athletics.

The team’s lease with the Coliseum expires after the 2024 season, forcing the Athletics to find a temporary home until their new ballpark in Las Vegas is built. And the earliest a Las Vegas ballpark could be 2028. So there are three seasons where the team’s home is up in the air.

Earlier this week, Carmichael Dave said on his show that he’s heard whispers that the Athletics would prefer Sacramento over Oakland and Salt Lake City. In his article, Benton calls Sacramento “the antidote” for the “toxic divorce between Oakland and the Athletics.”

“When I really thought about this, I thought there’s no downside for Sacramento, even if it’s a three-year rental of having the A’s here,” Benton explained. “Why not have them here for three seasons, at the very least, as an audition for Sacramento and Major League Baseball.”

Additional topics discussed include:

  • How would the A’s do in their three years in Sacramento?
  • The Sacramento audience would sell-out games, with or without the current ownership.
  • If the A’s land in Sacramento, is Oakland officially dead?
  • Why aren’t the Oakland Athletics for sale?
  • What parallels are there between the A’s and what happened with the Kings when they almost left Sacramento?
