The Sacramento River Cats are ready for the upcoming season, with their home opener set for Friday against the Salt Lake Bees.

Wednesday was the team’s media day, and the first time players were able to enter the newly renovated clubhouse.

“Wow is all I can really say, ” said River Cats Pitcher Mason Black. “Last year going into that clubhouse I was like ‘This isn’t bad’ and they made the upgrades this year and it just blows you away.”

The renovation includes enhanced facilities and state-of-the-art amenities. There are new women’s locker rooms, an enlarged weight room and an expanded dining area with full-time executive chef for the San Francisco Giants.

Upgrades are timely, as the team is just days away from the beginning of its 25th season.

While the River Cats are doubling down on creating a welcoming home environment there are rumors that Sutter Health Park could be a destination for the Oakland Athletics while they await a new stadium in Las Vegas.

KCRA 3’s Michelle Dapper asked River Cats President Chip Maxon about the conversations surrounding the A’s possible move to Sacramento.

“I’m hoping you can give me some answers on that,” Maxon said. “We are Sacramento’s team, we’re not going anywhere. If someone else were to play here, we’ve made it clear we want to play all 75 home games for the River Cats for the foreseeable future.”

The opening pitch for Friday’s home opener is at 6:45 p.m.
