To quote Michael Cole at the end of WrestleMania 30, the streak…is over.

The final buzz at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City signified the end of the Domantas Sabonis double-double streak. The Kings’ big man finished Tuesday’s game with eight points, five assists and 13 rebounds.

During his run of 61 consecutive double-doubles, Sabonis surpassed Jerry Lucas to become the Kings’ all-time franchise leader in consecutive double-doubles. He also surpassed Kevin Love for the longest consecutive double-double streak since the ABA-NBA merger. Love set the previous record (53) during the 2010-11 season with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The only other players who have accomplished such a streak or longer came before the 1976 merger. The eleven previous instances came from Wilt Chamberlain, Walt Bellamy, Elgin Baylor, and Elvin Hayes:

  1. Wilt Chamberlin (1966-67): 81
  2. Wilt Chamberlin (1961-62 and 1963-64): 80
  3. Walt Bellamy (1961-62) and Wilt Chamberlin (1960-61): 79: 79
  4. Elgin Baylor (1960-61): 70
  5. Wilt Chamberlin (1967-68): 66
  6. Domantas Sabonis (2023-24): 61
  7. Elvin Hayes (1968-69): 60

This isn’t the first record Domantas Sabonis has broken in his short tenure with the Sacramento Kings. Last season, with a fractured right thumb, the Kings’ center ended the year with the most triple-doubles (14) and the most double-doubles (65) in a single season in the Sacramento era.

When is the next game for Domantas Sabonins and the Kings?

Sacramento will return home for the final three games of the regular season, and they will be welcomed back with a back-to-back that could very well make or break its chase of the sixth-seed race in the West standings.

The Kings will face the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday night in front of a national audience on TNT before meeting the Phoenix Suns 24 hours later on Friday.

If Sacramento wants to avoid the Play-In, they will likely need both wins against two teams that are also looking to secure an automatic playoff berth and avoid any single-elimination scenarios.

New Orleans has dominated the Kings this season, holding a 4-0 record while outscoring Sacramento by an average of 21.0 points during four matchups.
