For the first time in two years, the Sacramento Kings will be crossing its fingers for luck during the upcoming NBA Draft Lottery.

After missing the playoffs by just one game, the Kings enter an offseason that is likely to see changes made to a roster that has remained largely intact since July 2022.

One week removed from eliminating the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Play-In Tournament, Sacramento secured another win over its division rival on Monday as the league settled the six tie-breakers for positioning in the draft lottery.

Both the Kings and Warriors finished the season with identical records (46-36), but Sacramento won the coin-toss tie-breaker and will now hold the 13th-best odds of securing the top pick in June’s NBA Draft.

Here is the full 2024 NBA Pre-Lottery Draft order (% likelihood of winning lottery)

  1. Detroit Pistons (14.0%)
  2. Washington Wizards (14.0%)
  3. Charlotte Hornets (13.3%)
  4. Portland Trail Blazers (13.2%)
  5. San Antonio Spurs (10.5%)
  6. Toronto Raptors (9.0%)
    • Note: The Spurs will receive this pick if it falls out of the top six (54.2%).
  7. Memphis Grizzlies (7.5%)
  8. Utah Jazz (6.0%)
    • Note: The Thunder will receive this pick if it falls out of the top 10 (0.5%).
  9. Houston Rockets (from Nets) (4.5%)
  10. Atlanta Hawks (3.0%)
  11. Chicago Bulls (2.0%)
  12. Oklahoma City Thunder (from Rockets) (1.5%)
    • Note: The Rockets will retain this pick if it moves into the top four (7.2%).
  13. Sacramento Kings (0.8%)
  14. Portland Trail Blazers (from Warriors) (0.7%)
    • Note: The Warriors will retain this pick if it moves into the top four (3.4%).

When is the NBA Draft Lottery?

The 2024 NBA Draft Lottery will be held on Sunday, May 12, 2024, in Chicago.

The 14 teams that missed out on the NBA playoffs are eligible for the Draft Lottery. The final odds were determined after the regular season, and tie breaks were settled between teams with identical regular season records.

How does the NBA Draft Lottery Work?

The NBA Board of Governors approved changes to the lottery system effective with the 2019 NBA Draft, reducing the odds so that the teams with the three worst records would share the same chance (14 percent) of receiving the No. 1 overall draft pick.

The odds for the remaining participants in the 14-team lottery would be reduced gradually after the top three. Drawings would be conducted for the first four picks of the NBA Draft. The other lottery teams would continue to pick in inverse order of their regular-season record.
