The Oakland A’s have added Zack Gelof to the team’s 10-day injured list.

A late scratch Wednesday ahead of the Athletics 7-3 loss to the New York Yankees, the 24-year-old second baseman was added to the injured list for a strained left oblique.

“Zack came in a little sore, went through his pregame [and] after his groundball routine, we talked about it and decided to scratch him,” manager Mark Kotsay told media.

Zack Gelof started all 24 games for the A’s up to Wednesday, hitting .196 with three home runs and seven RBIs.

As part of the move, Oakland’s No. 4 ranked prospect Darrell Hernaiz returns to the Bay Area. Hernaiz was on the opening day roster, but struggled, batting .103 with just two RBIs in his major league debut. His hitting improved slightly with the Las Vegas Aviators, going 4-for-19 (.211) with a home run and three RBIs in six games.

He previously started 10 games for the A’s, five at shortstop and five at third base.
