The San Francisco 49ers added to their offensive depth chart on Monday afternoon as they brought in a veteran tight end with nearly a decade of NFL experience.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafalo, the 49ers are working to finalize a deal with free agent Logan Thomas.

Thomas, 32, has played for the Washington Commanders since the start of the 2020 season. In 2023, the Virginia Tech product brought in 55 receptions and four touchdowns over 16 games.

The signing of Thomas will provide 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan with some insurance behind five-time Pro Bowl talent and franchise staple George Kittle, who hauled in 1,020 yards and six touchdowns during the 2023 season.

Over the course of Thomas’ career, the 6’6 250-pound talent has brought in 2,002 yards over 219 receptions to go along with 16 touchdowns (94 games played).

Thomas’ previous stops include the past four seasons with Washington, the Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills, and Arizona Cardinals.
