Sacramento Kings select guard Devin Carter with 13th pick in NBA Draft

The pick is in.

After months of speculation, the Sacramento Kings selected Providence guard Devin Carter with the 13th pick in the first round of Wednesday’s 2024 NBA Draft.

Carter, 22, was the Big East Player of the Year in 2023-24 while also taking home All-Big East First Team Honors.

At 6’3, Carter finished the season ranked 3rd in rebounds per game (8.7) and total rebounds (286) among all Big East players.

According to multiple reports, Sacramento was in negations with the Washington Wizards and Brooklyn Nets on trades for Kyle Kuzma and Cameron Johson but opted to hold onto the pick and select the high-scoring, strong-rebounding guard in Carter.

Carter is a versatile 6-3 guard who is really making a name for himself in NBA draft circles and looking like a potential lottery pick. The son of long time NBA player Anthony Carter, Devin is like an upgraded version of his old man.

He’s a standout defender who can really lock down on the perimeter and get after ball handlers. He’s not the biggest guard but has a lot of strength, allowing him to defend either guard position and hold his own against wings. He’s also an elite rebounder for a guard and really helps out the bigs on the glass.

On the offensive end Carter is just as aggressive. He’s a powerful driver and good finisher in traffic. He’s also a high level 3pt shooter, hitting nearly 38% from 3 his junior season.

He plays a steady, consistent and efficient game and brings it on both ends. Carter can run the point or play off the ball. He’s a heady player who makes winning plays all over the court.

He projects as a rotation player at the next level who could bring versatility and team-first play off of a NBA bench.

The NBA Draft is now a two-night event.

Wednesday, June 26th, will act as the first night of the 2024 NBA Draft, where the Sacramento Kings will make their first-round selection (13th). The second round of the draft will be held on Thursday, June 27th, where the Kings will use its 45th overall pick.

Sacramento hasn’t had a first-round pick since 2022, when it selected Iowa product Keegan Murray with the fourth overall pick.
