Sacramento Kings choose not to extend qualifying offers to 3 players

With NBA free agency set to begin at 3:00 PM PDT on Sunday, the Sacramento Kings all but said goodbye to three players on Saturday night.

According to FOX 40’s Sean Cunningham, the Kings did not extend qualifying offers to Kessler Edwards, Jalen Slawson, and Jordan Ford, making all three players unrestricted free agents.

Edwards, acquired by Sacramento during the 2023 NBA trade deadline, logged 76 games with the Kings over two seasons, averaging 2.3 points over 7.6 minutes per contest.

The Sacramento Kings did not extend qualifying offers to Folsom native Jordan Ford, last year’s second round pick Jalen Slawson or Kessler Edwards, according to league sources. All three players will become unrestricted free agents.

Slawson, the 54th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, spent the bulk of the 2023-24 season with G-League affiliate Stockton on a two-way contract. Over 30 appearances, the 6’7 forward averaged 13.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game on 47 percent shooting from the field.

Ford, a Folsom native, joined Slawson in Stockton on a two-way contract and averaged 15.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.0 steals on 49/43/94 shooting splits over 24 games.

The Saint Mary’s product scored his first NBA points during the 2023-24 season, finishing the year with 12 points over six appearances with Sacramento.

Shortly after last week’s 2024 NBA Draft, the Kings reached agreements on two-way contracts with Washington State forward Isaac Jones and Louisiana Tech forward Isaiah Crawford.

With guard Mason Jones under contract for the Kings’ third and final two-way spot, Sacramento will now look to fill three regular-season roster spots via free agency or trade in the coming days as free agency gets underway.

When is the next NBA off-season date of interest?

Now that the NBA Draft is in the rearview, all eyes will shift to the start of free agency.

All 30 teams will be able to negotiate free-agent deals with players beginning this Sunday, June 30th, at 3:00 PM PDT.

Sacramento already did some heavy lifting by agreeing to a four-year, $78 million deal with Sixth Man of the Year runner-up Malik Monk, as the two sides agreed on a long-term contract last weekend.
