Sabonis suffers left hamstring strain, will miss at least one week

The Sacramento Kings announced that Domantas Sabonis suffered a grade one left hamstring strain in Saturday's game and will miss at least one week.

Already facing the second-hardest remaining schedule over their final stretch of the 2024-25 season, the Sacramento Kings will now have to stay afloat without Domantas Sabonis for at least one week.

The two-time All-NBA center grabbed at his hamstring while running down the floor less than two minutes into their Saturday night action in Houston. Interim head coach Doug Christie called a timeout to cater to Sabonis, who did not return to action.

According to the Kings, Sabonis suffered a grade one left hamstring strain. “Sabonis will be listed as out and an update will be provided in (1) week.”

Based on that timeline, they will have at least three to four games without him, leaving more responsibility on fellow Lithuanian center Jonas Valanciunas. Trey Lyles will also likely function as the backup center as Sacramento goes small in those moments.

Locked into a highly competitive Western Conference seeding race, it’s tricky timing for the squad, but their improved depth post-deadline should aid their efforts in his absence.

Domantas Sabonis went down less than two minutes into the game, but Jonas Valanciunas stepped in as the Sacramento Kings remained efficient against the Houston Rockets’ fourth-ranked defense, leaving Toyota Center with a 113-103 win.

When is the next Sacramento Kings game?

Sacramento’s second game of their four-game road trip features a game with large Western Conference standings indications on Monday night.

The Kings (31-28) will face off against the Mavericks (32-29) in Dallas as both teams are in a three-way tie for the 8th seed, which also includes the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Dallas has been dealing with a slew of big man injuries, while the Kings are expected to be without big man Domantas Sabonis, who went down less than two minutes into their Satuday night action against the Houston Rockets.
