In a year that saw the Oakland Athletics surprise the baseball world with 97 wins, the accolades have begun to roll in.

Oakland’s third baseman Matt Chapman and first baseman Matt Olson received Rawlings Gold Glove awards for their incredible defensive seasons.

The Athletic’s corner infielders bring Oakland their first Gold Glove awards since Josh Reddick in 2012, and their first infield Gold Glove award since Eric Chavez in 2006. Middle infielders Marcus Semien and Jed Lowrie also garnered nominations for Gold Gloves at their respective positions, but came up short in the voting.

Chapman led the entire MLB in defensive runs saved (29) and led all American League third basemen in total chances (484), assists (331), and zone rating (.853).

Olson reigned supreme over all MLB first basemen in defensive runs saved (14), putouts (1,403), and a .995 fielding percentage.

The young and exciting corner infielders also had great years at the plate, combining for 54 home runs and and 152 runs batted in. Both played a pivotal roll in clinching Oakland’s first postseason berth since 2014.

Chapman and Olson are up for the Platinum Glove, the award given to the best overall defensive player in each league.
