49ers’ Trent Williams ranked as top-five offensive tackle in NFL
Is San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams still a top-five player at his position? NFL executives, scouts & more have weighed in.

NFL training camps are underway, and ESPN surveyed league executives, coaches, and scouts to rank the top ten players at eleven positions. How many San Francisco 49ers were included in the top ten of their respective positions?
San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams has been ranked as the fourth-best offensive tackle in the NFL by a poll of executives, coaches, scouts, and others who are currently plugged into the game.
Williams, 37, is an 11-time Pro Bowler and three-time First Team All-Pro during his 14-year career.

The top-ranked tackle from the previous four years basically has played like a 25-year-old for more than a decade. But the injuries have started to pile up as Williams approaches his 37th birthday, as ankle issues have cost him games in each of the last two seasons.
He’s still excellent, allowing four sacks in 10 games in 2024 and driving the 49ers’ potent running attack. But, somewhat surprisingly, Williams did not garner his normal share of No. 1 votes.
“When he’s clicking, there’s still nobody better,” a veteran NFL offensive coach said. “He’s the most powerful tackle I’ve ever seen.”
Williams allowed an average time to pressure of 3.78 seconds last season, per Next Gen Stats, the longest among left tackles with at least 25 pressures allowed.

How much could you glean from the first padded practice out there?
“You know I’ll be honest, the first padded practice forever has always been the most disappointing day of the year. Not to say today wasn’t good or anything, but everyone gets hyped up for for pads. I think the guys did a good job protecting one another, came out and competed. It was a big day from a load standpoint. It was a good protective day.”
Are there any competitions you like to watch when pads go on as far as the one-on-one stuff?
“For one-on-ones? Yeah.”
Yeah, we know you’re a linebacker guy.
“I like watching the DBs, the corners. I do, I like watching them compete.”
Did anyone stand out today with that group?
“Yeah, there are a lot of things that we’re going through and that we’re fighting through with regards to our man techniques and what we want to get accomplished and the way we want to teach it. It’s a part of what we do, obviously. So, there are some really cool opportunities to get a lot of things cleaned up.”
